The menopause transition is one of the least understood and discussed topics in women’s health.
If you're not sure whether you're in peri-menopause, going through the menopause transition, or post-menopause you're not alone. Most women don't know. Menopause is the time in your life when your ovaries stop producing eggs, your body produces less estrogen and progesterone, and your periods becomes less frequent, eventually stopping all together. There are four phases to the transition, which include:
Pre-menopause: you do not have any menopause-related symptoms
Peri-menopause: when your body begins the transition and often you start to experience symptoms and have an irregular period
Menopause: a moment in time when you have experienced 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period
Post-menopause: generally 24 to 36 months after your last period, symptoms begin to subside in post-menopause
